DAVISON — Police were on the scene of a standoff early Thursday after officers said a man took his family hostage, fired off his gun several times and refused to leave his residence.

Officers from the City of Davison, Davison Township, the Michigan State Police and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department converged on a home on Kay Street in the city at approximately 10 p.m., Wednesday, after 911 calls about a domestic situation in the household.

Police blocked off Kay and surrounding streets, preventing some residents from getting to their homes late Wednesday and early Thursday.

“There’s not much I can tell you,” said Lt. David Gilbert of the Davison Police Department at about midnight, when asked about the standoff.

At one point an officer at the scene indicated Davison Police Chief Bill Brandon was at the house, but was unavailable to comment.

Gunshots from the home could be heard sporadically throughout the neighborhood north of Flint Street and east of M-15. At 12:35 a.m. police could be heard ordering someone to put his or her hands up in the vicinity of the home. No shots were fired and the standoff continued.

Michigan State Police troopers dressed in camouflage began arriving around that time in nearly a dozen separate vehicles, all converging on the Kay Street home. A special response unit truck also arrived on the scene before 1 a.m.

An officer at the scene said police were trying to talk to the suspect and might wait him out if possible. It was unclear if anyone had been injured by the gunshots.

At 1 a.m. there was still no resolution to the situation.
