JUDSON STEVEN DAVIS,

83, of Davison, passed away suddenly on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Jud was born in Detroit, on August 3, 1928, and was the son of John and Henrietta (Elferdink) Davis. He married Marjorie Fenton on June 27, 1953, and was a longstanding member of Davison United Methodist Church.

He served on the Davison City Council from 1961-1965 and 1967-1969, and was the mayor of Davison from 1969-1971. He further served the community as a Planning Commission member and as Chairman of the Parks Committee (where he worked to acquire, design and develop the Davison Regional Park). He worked tirelessly to bring The Word to others through The Gideons International and through The Hispanic/Latino Ministries of the United Methodist Church. His passions ranged from historical preservation to stamp collecting and sailing on Little Traverse Bay.

A few of his many community service affiliations included the Genesee County Association for Retarded Citizens, Quality Living Systems, Boy Scout Troop 178, The Bay View Association Archives and The Springfield Township Historical Society.

Jud was a licensed professional engineer who had a rich 52-year career in the automotive industry, involved in the development of electra-cruise and a number of other automotive systems. During the Korean War, he worked to develop radar based anti-aircraft systems. Through the 70s, he helped establish GM’s first emissions testing center in Flint. Later, Jud lived abroad and served as the technical coordinator for design and construction of emissions testing centers in Luxembourg and in Tokyo; he also consulted on-site investigations for another in Shanghai, China.

Judson is survived by his wife, Marjorie; children, Edward Steven (Joan) Davis, Patricia Louise Davis, Matthew Fenton (Toni) Davis and Elizabeth Anne Davis; granddaughter, Ariana Elizabeth Davis; brother, David Alan Davis; nephews, Steven Davis and John Fenton; and niece, Alicia Fenton.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to be made to The Gideons International, Quality Living Systems, The Heifer Project or another charity of the donor’s choice.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2012, at Davison United Methodist Church, 207 E. 3rd Street, Davison, with Pastor Debbie Line officiating.
