Senator Jim Ananich Gets “Crime Fighter Award”

LANSING – Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Michigan – a statewide crime prevention non-profit organization led by more than 500 of Michigan’s best-known police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors and crime survivors – honored Senator Jim Ananich with Fight Crime’s prestigious “Crime Fighter Award” during a reception at the State Capitol.

Grand Ledge Police Chief Martin Underhill, current president of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police and a state executive committee member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Michigan, presented the award to Sen. Ananich, saying, “Preventing crime before it occurs with quality preschool programs is in each community’s best interest and in the best interest of our children. I am honored to present Fight Crime’s 2014 ‘Crime Fighter Award’ to Sen. Ananich for his outstanding support and leadership on behalf of prevention through early childhood programs; including high-quality preschool, high-quality child day care, health care, and higher learning standards that help to ensure kids are ready for 21st Century opportunities.” Underhill added, “When kids succeed, communities succeed.”

Ingham County Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth, also a state executive committee member of Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Michigan said, “Sen. Ananich’s leadership on prevention included supporting the $130 million increase in the state-funded preschool to ensure that all eligible Michigan children have access to high-quality preschool.” – G.G.

Outfront Media Hosts January Lunch is on Us

GRAND BLANC – The public is invited to join the Flint & Genesee Chamber of Commerce and Outfront Media at noon on Jan. 14, for the January Lunch is On Us. The luncheon will kick off the new year at the Captain’s Club at Woodfield, located at 10200 Woodfield Dr. in Grand Blanc.

Scheduled speakers include Outfront Media General Manager Adam Brozo and Phil Shaltz of Shaltz Automation. Brozo will speak briefly on Outfront Media’s recent name change from CBS Outdoor, followed by Shaltz who will provide behind the scenes discussion and efforts the creative “I’m Concerned About the Blueberries” social awareness campaign.

Lunch is On Us is a great way to network with other Chamber members. Bring your business cards, an appetite and a smile, and come ready to connect with others and learn key business techniques from a special guest speaker.
