Upcoming Whiting schedule highlights the holidays

Photo provided FLINT — The Whiting is gearing up for the holiday season, with a number of perennial holiday classics set to premiere at the auditorium in the coming weeks. The exciting lineup of musicals, performances and shows scheduled at the Whiting and Flint Institute of Music for this holiday season include the Nutcracker Tea, The Nutcracker Ballet and Holiday Pops featuring the Flint Symphony Orchestra.

The Flint Institute of Music will host the Nutcracker Tea at 1 p.m. in the Anderson Room on Saturday, Nov. 25, where visitors will be transported to the magical Land of the Sweets in the world of Tchaikowsky’s Nutcracker. You’ll enjoy this memorable afternoon with lunch catered by Fandangle’s including amazing desserts, tea and hot chocolate.

This wonderful experience will make any child’s dreams come true with visits from characters of the Nutcracker ballet, story hour during lunch, face painting and cookie decorating as well as an opportunity to dance like your favorite characters.

Firmly established as one of the most well-known holiday performances, The Nutcracker Ballet, set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, features Karen Mills Jennings as the artistic director and David Mairs as the Flint Symphony Orchestra’s guest conductor. The Flint Institute of Music welcomes internationally renowned ballerina, Ingrid Silva, who will be performing the role of Sugar Plum Fairy in Tchaikowsky’s Nutcracker Ballet. Featuring Collage Dance Collective of Memphis, Flint Symphony Orchestra, and the students from Flint School of Performing Arts.

On Saturday, Dec. 16 and Sunday, Dec. 17, Holiday Pops featuring The Flint Symphony Orchestra, will bring joy, merriment and the holiday spirit with this beloved season favorite, featuring the Flint Symphony Orchestra with guest conductor Laura Jackson, and the Flint Symphony Chorus.
